Nosework

Barb Burton-Werle

I discovered K9NW in 2011 while looking for enrichment for my then, one year old, 150-pound Newfoundland puppy named Sacha. My puppy and I quickly fell in love with this sport which led us into others like obedience, rally, agility & treibball. Sacha loved all the things, but nose work was what we loved best.

I began coaching nose work teams in 2015 and became an NACSW™ Certified Instructor in 2020. As a certified instructor, I complete a minimum of 24 continuing education hours per 2-year certification period. In 2024-2025, I completed 50+ hours of continuing education in topics like The Dog Driven Search, Power of Pairing, Toys and Nose Work, Games for Low Drive Dogs, Neuroscience of the Sport Dog. I also attend immersive K9NW training camps in person or online annually.

I am a certified NACSW™ ORT Judge and an ORT Certifying Official. I am an active volunteer for nose work events and I’ve competed with four Newfoundland over the years in nearly all levels of K9 Nose Work. I’ve competed in NACSW, AKC and CPE venues. I currently have two young Newfies training and trialing in multiple venues.
